Economy Minister Giovanni Tria
said Tuesday that it was possible to avert an EU infringement
procedure against Italy over its budget plan for 2019.
"It is possible to avoid the infringement procedure," Tria
told the Welfare Italia Forum 2018.
"It is a question of taking political decisions with respect
to the various alternatives".
Tria said the government would not forego two of its biggest
pledges - a 'citizenship wage' basic income for job seekers and
the 'quota 100' pension overhaul that effectively brings down
the retirement age.
But the minister added that "technically, the measures will
take a few months to be realized".
"The budget will not be turned upside down," he added.
