Two minors have been arrested for allegedly raping and beating a 90-year-old woman during a robbery. The woman has been taken to hospital after suffering multiple injuries, including broken bones.
The minors, boys aged 17 and 14, have been taken to a juvenile detention centre in the Sicilian city of Messina. They face charges of attempted homicide, sexual violence and aggravated robbery. The woman is thought to have opened her door to the boys as one of them was a friend of her grandson.
When they got into her home, they started to go on the rampage, looking for money and values.
Despite her age, the woman is thought to have tried to stop the robbery, at which point she was brutally beaten and sexually abused.
Police founded her covered in blood and bruises after her daughter sounded the alarm. Despite her injuries, she managed to give the police enough information for them to identify the suspects, who are said to have still been wearing blood-stained clothes when they were tracked down.
