A 43-year-old man stabbed his
51-year-old wife to death in their home at Marghera near Venice
and called the police Thursday night, sources said Friday.
The man was named as Gianfranco Duini and the victim as
Claudia Bortolozzo.
Police arrested the man on murder charges after he handed
himself in.
Duini killed Bortolozzo in their bedroom, police said.
He turned on the light, approached her and slit her throat,
they said.
Duini then called the police saying "I've made a mess".
Both the alleged murderer and his victim had been in
treatment for some time for mental-health issues and they were
both living on disability cheques, police said.
Neighbours reported that they had rowed frequently in recent
days.
