Covid: Greece, two-week lockdown in Thessaloniki

The rest of the country will need to respect nighttime curfew

02 November, 15:48
(ANSAmed) - ATHENS, 02 NOV - Greece has announced a two-week-long lockdown in the second-largest city of the country, Thessaloniki, to contain a surge in coronavirus cases.

Flights to and from the city will also be suspended. Everything will remain closed, except for schools, and those who want to leave their home will need to ask for a permit through text messages.

The latest restrictions follow lockdowns in the areas of Kozani and Kastoria in northern Greece. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Saturday announced new restrictions in Athens and in other major cities: restaurants, cafes, clubs, cinemas, museums and gyms in the most affected areas will be closed.

Commercial activities, including hotels and hairdressers, and schools will remain open.

The rest of the country will need to respect a nighttime curfew while the use of facemasks remains mandatory in closed public spaces. Contrary to when a national lockdown was imposed in March, the movement between regions has not been limited so far. (ANSA).
