EU regrets Kosovo's decision to open an embassy in Jerusalem

Diverges from EU position on two States' capital status

(ANSA) - BRUXELLES, 02 FEB - The European Union regrets Kosovo's decision to open an embassy in Jerusalem. The decision is "regrettable" and "diverges Kosovo from EU position on the issue of Jerusalem", the spokesperson for EU foreign policy, Peter Stano, said today on the latest developments on the normalization of relations between Israel and Kosovo.

"All the embassies of the EU Member States and the EU delegations are located in Tel Aviv", Stano recalled, underlining that the long-standing position of Brussels on the issue "has not changed." The EU has always supported the two-State solution with Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and Palestine and "a final solution on the status of Jerusalem as the future capital of both States has to be found through direct negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians," he said.

The spokesperson added that Kosovo has indicated "integration into the EU as its strategic priority and it is expected to act in line with that." (ANSA).
