Serbia: Parliament votes in favor of new Brnabic government

Elections were boycotted by main opposition parties

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 29 OTT - Four months after the general elections, the Serbian Parliament approved a new government led again by Ana Brnabic on Wednesday evening. In total, 227 MPs voted in favor of the new cabinet and ministries, half of them women. Only five MPs voted against. The elections in June were boycotted by most of the opposition parties, which are accusing the Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic of being an increasing authoritarian leader.

Speaking in the Parliament before the vote, Brnabic said her new government will have six priorities, including the fight against crime and corruption, rule of law, speeding up reforms needed for the EU integration, strengthening the economy and defending Serbia's independence and the interests of Serbs in Kosovo.
