Bosnia:Mogherini, elections a chance for country's direction

Hahn replies to media on migration,'extensive EU support'

(ANSA) - BRUSSELS - The general elections in Bosnia, next October, "offer a new chance for citizens to have a say over the country's direction, and for political leaders to come out with concrete reform projects", EU High Representative Federica Mogherini said today in Brussels at the end of the EU-Bosnia-Herzegovina Stabilisation and Association Council.

Mogherini also underlined that "election campaigns are not about commemorating a divisive past, they're about looking into the future".

During talks, the EU reiterated "the importance of enhanced cooperation" with Bosnia-Herzegovina on border management. EU Commissioner for Enlargement Johannes Hahn which replied to the Bosnian media accusations to the EU of not giving the country enough support on migration. Brussels gives "extensive support" to Bosnia-Herzegovina "to tackle the issue of migratory flows, 26 million euros and additional six million in case of emergency," he said. Brussels is awaiting Bosnia's answers to the questionnaire necessary to formulate an opinion to grant the country the status of EU candidate. "We hope to be granted status by the end of this Commission mandate," Bosnian premier Denis Zvizdic said.
