Internet: Romania fifth in the world for download speed

Country went up 13 positions in just one year

(ANSA) - BELGRADE - Romania is ranking fifth in the world for the speed of Internet broadband, according to a report published by the portal Cable.co.uk, produced on the basis of data collected by M-Lab, a partnership between New America's Open Technology Institute, Google Open Source Research and PlanetLab (Princeton University) the portal Romania Insider reported. The results are based on over 163 million speed tests in 200 countries.

Romania registered an average download speed of 36.80 Mbps in 2018, up from the 21.33 Mbps recorded in 2017, an Internet speed that allows, for instance, to download a 5GB HD movie in less than 18 minutes, Cable.co.uk data show. Romania went up 13 places in the annual ranking between 2017 and 2018.

According to the research, only four other countries in the world have a faster Internet than Romania: Singapore, with an average download speed of over 60 Mbps, Sweden (46), Denmark (44) and Norway (40.1 Mbps). (ANSA).
