(ANSA) - LJUBLJANA, 23 FEB - Slovenian Railways (Sž) have confirmed that negotiations are underway with Trenitalia for a high-speed rail link between Venice and Ljubljana. After the rumors of recent days, Sž told the Slovenian Press Agency (STA) that the ongoing dialogue with Trenitalia entails the extension of the Frecciarossa route from Venice to Trieste, and the Slovenian capital, respecting the driving speed and in compliance with the limits of the Slovenian railway that is 160km/h.

The talks aim at creating a link in December 2021 or early 2022.

Italy and Slovenia already had a direct rail link (from December 2004 until April 2008), with a Eurocity train running the route every day, between the Santa Lucia train station in Venice and Ljubljana, and then reaching Budapest. (ANSA).
