Migrants: EU, Greece must stop pushing back asylum seekers

But the authorities in Athens deny allegations

(ANSA) - ROME, 13 LUG - A senior EU official told the BBC that the Greek government must stop the illegal pushback of migrants arriving at the country's borders. The commissioner for home affairs, Ylva Johansson, said that the reports of "pushbacks" out to sea and on land are "very well-grounded", the BBC reported, and are "violations of fundamental European values." According to several human rights organizations, thousands of asylum seekers in Europe were pushed back from Greece to Turkey before they had a chance to apply for asylum. However, Greece has consistently denied any allegation. (ANSA).
