(ANSA) - PRISTINA, 20 APR - US President Joe Biden has urged the Kosovo leadership to continue 'with commitment and conviction' the talks with Serbia. The goal is a final agreement on the normalization of ties that "should be centered on mutual recognition." In a congratulatory letter sent to Kosovo's new president Vjosa Osmani, Biden said that "the United States will continue to support efforts to secure a lasting peace through productive dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia and ultimately a comprehensive normalization agreement, which we believe should be centered on mutual recognition." Underlining the excellent relationship between the US and Pristina, Biden remarked his family's "personal connection" to Kosovo, mentioning his son Beau (who died in recent years), who served in Kosovo as part of the US peacekeepers.

In his letter to Osmani, Biden confirmed his interest in working with President Osmani on some "priorities": the rule of law, the fight against corruption, the protection of the rights of minorities and religious communities, and the economic recovery after the pandemic. The US will also help Kosovo in terms of Covid vaccines, working on their distribution with the country's partners. (ANSA).
