Valpolicella wines are doing well and their market is growing as the Valpolicella Wine Consortium is kicking off a week-long tour of the United States this week. Amarone is doing particularly well with sales in the US worth 15% of exports of the 'king of Valpolicella' wines. The American market last year nearly reached the wine's top buyer - Germany (16%). The performance of the Consortium's other wines is also positive in the long-term: Veneto labels - including 70% from the area of Verona - registered an increase of 45.7% over the past five years. The Consortium also said that the US market absorbs about one-fourth of overall Italian wine sales abroad. ''It is fundamental to continue to work in the United States to boost the perception and position of consumers, also considering the fortune of being spared from the latest additional customs tariffs that affected other Italian products'', said the director of the Valpolicella Wine Consortium, Olga Bussinello. ''We have excellent wines and great margins to grow'', she concluded.
