(ANSA) - BOLZANO, 04 FEB - The Austrian government considers Tyrol's lockdown due to the South African variant's spread.

Health Minister Rudolf Anschober told the APA news agency that "the situation is serious". Experts' investigations are underway. "Sunday will be the day of the balance sheet. We have to wait a few days," the minister added.

Virologist Dorothee von Laer, from the University of Innsbruck, asked for Tyrol's 1-month lockdown to avoid "a second Ischgl case". (ANSA).
