COVID-19: 48559 cases in 'New Europe' last week

19 August, 15:10According to WHO data, the countries across the region that reported more new cases were Ukraine (10407), Romania (8751), Germany (7562), Poland (4923) and Moldova (2462), while the lowest number was observed in Latvia (27) and in Estonia (37).
The highest number of cumulative cases of COVID-19 in the area was registered in Germany (223453), followed by Ukraine (91356), Romania (69734), Belarus (69424), Poland (56090), Moldova (29905), Serbia (29471), Austria (23211) and Czechia (19891).
Currently, Moldova has currently the highest rate of cumulative cases per 1 million population (7413), followed by Belarus (7347), Montenegro (6389), Kosovo (6037), North Macedonia (6022), Bosnia-Herzegovina (4816), Romania (3606) and Serbia (3340), while the lowest rate was recorded in Slovakia (523).
The countries across the region that reported more new deaths last week were Ukraine (173), Kosovo (75), Bosnia-Herzegovina (70), Poland (69) and Moldova (54), while Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia and Slovakia did not register new deaths.
In Central- and Eastern Europe, the highest number of deaths from COVID-19 were reported in Germany (9231), Romania (2954), Ukraine (2070), Poland (1869), Moldova (895), Austria (728), Serbia (670), Belarus (607) and Hungary (607).
Currently, North Macedonia has the highest rate of deaths per 1 million population (257), followed by Moldova (222), Kosovo (204), Romania (154), Bosnia-Herzegovina (142) and Montenegro (119), while the lowest rate was recorded in Slovakia (6).
In Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and in the Western Balkans (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania) 173212 confirmed cases and 6089 deaths were registered as of August 16. (ANSA).
