Hungary: Brussels, let Klubradio broadcast

Letter to Budapest, 'reasons for stop are questionable'

15 February, 18:50
(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, 15 FEB - The EU asked Hungary to allow KlubRadio to continue broadcasting. A spokesman for the EU's executive said. "When Hungary enforces EU rules on frequencies, it should respect the Charter of Fundamental Rights, which includes freedom of expression, information, and business," said Christian Wigand.

In a letter, the Commission underlined that the frequencies were suspended "with very questionable legal reasons" by Budapest.

And then said that they "can continue to be used," avoiding "irreparable damage to their owner." The Hungarian radio stopped broadcasting tonight after the license withdrawal. (ANSA).
