A piece of a capital on the
18th-century Reggia di Caserta Bourbon palace fell off in a
storm on Monday, sources said Tuesday.
The intense rain, together with hail and lightning, knocked
off a portion of acanthus leaf decoration on one of the capitals
on the southwest facade which looks on to Piazza Carlo III,
sources said.
That part of the Reggia was last restored in works that ended
in 2016.
The Reggia, Italy's Versailles, is one of the top tourist
attractions in southern Italy.
It has also formed the backdrop to several films including
Star Wars.
