The prosecutor general of the
Italian Audits Court, Alberto Avoli, decried rampant absenteeism
in the country on Friday.
"The phenomenon of absenteeism is endemic and difficult to
get rid of," he said.
"Ever stricter rules have been brought in over time but the
results were not in line with expectations."
Avoli was speaking at the inauguration ceremony for the 2019
judicial year of the State auditor.
He called for more "motivating of personnel", explaining that
he meant by this the "valuing of professional qualities and
fighting against all behaviors that express disaffection, apathy
and passivity" as well as absenteeism of a form that is subject
to "disciplinary, criminal and accounting procedures".
The Audit Court noted that managers and officials are also to
be considered responsible, who "did not implement with
sufficient attention the necessary verification into the
presence of personnel".
