Italian alpine skier Federica
Brignone won her second medal of the Beijing 2022 Winter
Olympics on Thursday when she took bronze in the women's
combined event.
The gold medal went to Michelle Gisin and her Swiss compatriot
Wendy Holdener took silver.
"Today Gisin and Holdener skied really well in the slalom
(section of the combined event) so I had no chance (of dong
better)," said Brignone, who also won silver in the giant slalom
last week.
"The exit of (America's Mikaela) Shiffrin in the second run
helped me, but that's sport.
"In this race you have to try to ski your best but without
taking too making risks.
"I started off fast in the slalom but them I held back".
The 31-year-old had expressed doubts about whether she would
compete at the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics after her
disappointing performance in her strongest event, the Super G,
only to quickly backtrack.
"I was disappointed and tired after the Super G, along the lines
of 'I wanna go home'," she said.
"But then I cheered up and I said to myself as I trained in the
slalom - 'I'm at the Games, I'll do everything I can'
"And here I am. Having two medals is certainly fantastic".
Italy's medal tally at Beijing 2022 now stands at 16, including
two golds.
