(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 27 JUL - A total of 572.151 confirmed
cases of COVID-19 (+5212 day-on-day) were registered since the
beginning of the pandemic in countries in Central- and Eastern
Europe, Germany, Austria and Greece, show official data of
national authorities collected by the World Health Organization
(WHO) by July 26. The growth of COVID-19 cases in the region
was particularly strong in the Western Balkans, Croatia,
Bulgaria and Romania in the past week, according to data updated
as of July 20. Belarus, Moldova, North Macedonia and Montenegro
are now registering more confirmed total cases of Covid-19 per
million people than Italy. The total number of fatalities in
the region is 20082 (+86), of which 9118 registered in Germany,
2165 in Romania, 1664 in Poland, 1605 in Ukraine 733 in Moldova,
712 in Austria, 596 in Hungary, 526 in Serbia, 524 in Belarus.
The highest number of cases of COVID-19 in the area was
registered in Germany (205269, +305 in the last 24 hours),
followed by Belarus (66846, -), Ukraine (64849, +920), Romania
(43678, +1284), Poland (42622, +584), Serbia (23263, +411),
Moldova (22828, +345), Austria (20349, +120), and Czechia
(15212, +131). In Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and in
the Western Balkans (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro,
Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania) 118194 confirmed cases and
4353 deaths were registered as of July 26. In Central- and
Eastern Europe, Belarus has registered about 7042 cases of
COVID-19 per million inhabitants, followed by Moldova (5659),
North Macedonia (4783) and Montenegro (4070), compared to 4065
in Italy, while the lowest rate was observed in Slovakia (393
per million) and Greece (387 per million), according to a count
by ANSA based on WHO data. In the region, North Macedonia has
registered the highest number of deaths per one million
population (221), followed by Moldova (182), Romania (112) and
Germany (110), Slovakia the lowest (5). Italy has recorded
around 580 deaths per million inhabitants. Between July 13
and July 20, the highest weekly increase of total confirmed
cases was observed in Montenegro (+45,0%), Bosnia-Herzegovina
(+22,8%), Croatia (+17,0%), Kosovo (+16,4%), Bulgaria (+16,1%),
Romania (+15,1%), Albania (+14,5%), Serbia (+13,8%) and North
Macedonia (+12,8%). Only in Slovakia, Austria, Lithuania,
Hungary, Belarus, Latvia, Germany and Estonia the weekly
increase of new cases was between 5% and zero. (ANSA).
