(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 27 JUL - A total of 577.121 confirmed
cases of COVID-19 (+4970 day-on-day) were registered since the
beginning of the pandemic in countries in Central- and Eastern
Europe, Germany, Austria and Greece, show official data of
national authorities collected by the World Health Organization
(WHO) by July 27. In the past week, the growth of COVID-19
cases in the region was particularly strong in the Western
Balkans, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and Ukraine, according to
data updated as of July 27. Belarus, Moldova, North Macedonia
and Montenegro are now registering more confirmed total cases of
Covid-19 per million people than Italy. The total number of
fatalities in the region is 20163 (+81), of which 9118
registered in Germany, 2187 in Romania, 1671 in Poland, 1616 in
Ukraine 740 in Moldova, 712 in Austria, 596 in Hungary, 534 in
Serbia, 524 in Belarus. The highest number of cases of
COVID-19 in the area was registered in Germany (205609, +340 in
the last 24 hours), followed by Belarus (66846, -), Ukraine
(65656, +807), Romania (44798, +1120), Poland (43065, +443),
Serbia (23730, +467), Moldova (23034, +206), Austria (20486,
+137), and Czechia (15324, +112). In Slovenia, Croatia,
Bulgaria, Romania and in the Western Balkans (Serbia, Bosnia and
Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania)
121020 confirmed cases and 4405 deaths were registered as of
July 27. In Central- and Eastern Europe, Belarus has
registered about 7042 cases of COVID-19 per million inhabitants,
followed by Moldova (5710), North Macedonia (4856) and
Montenegro (4517), compared to 4069 in Italy, while the lowest
rate was observed in Slovakia (400 per million) and Greece (389
per million), according to a count by ANSA based on WHO data. In
the region, North Macedonia has registered the highest number of
deaths per one million population (221), followed by Moldova
(183), Romania (113) and Germany (110), Slovakia the lowest (5).
Italy has recorded around 580 deaths per million inhabitants.
Between July 20 and July 27, the highest weekly increase of
total confirmed cases was observed in Montenegro (+61,0%),
Kosovo (+24,6%), Bosnia-Herzegovina (+22,2%), Romania (+19,6%)
and Bulgaria (+19,4%). Only in Austria, Greece, Lithuania,
Hungary, Latvia, Germany, Belarus and Estonia the weekly
increase of new cases was between 5% and zero. (ANSA).
