Cancellations in Austria,German tourism focus on South Tyrol

Families change destinations to avoid quarantine on return

(ANSA) - BOZEN, NOV 17 - Ski resorts in Austria are recording many cancellations by German tourists for the Christmas vacations. Reservations are now focusing on South Tyrol. Berlin warns against travel to Austria and imposes a ten-day quarantine for those returning to Germany.

You can break the isolation five days after a negative PCR swab.

As hotel-keeper and former MP Sepp Schellhorn told the ORF TV, "we are seeing a wave of cancellations." It's mainly families who want to avoid quarantine for their children and therefore move to South Tyrol, which - at least for the moment - is still a white zone. "The situation is tragic," the vice president of the Austrian hoteliers, Walther Veit, confirmed in the same radio broadcast. "During the Christmas holidays, our customers are mainly families," he said, launching an appeal to politics: "We are even willing to swab the children before they return," he explained. (ANSA).
