Following the evacuation of
approximately 3,400 nearby inhabitants, three aerial bombs were
effectively deactivated in Nova Gorica on Sunday. On-site
detonation was required for a 100kg explosive device of unknown
origin with a faulty fuse, whereas two bombs from the Second
World War were deactivated without detonating. The bombs were
discovered during the reconstruction of the train station. On
the Slovenian side, more than 2,300 individuals were evacuated,
while on the Italian side, almost 1,100 were affected, local
media reported.
