The European Commission stated
that it welcomes Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania's agreement
today to accelerate the integration of their electricity grids
with continental Europe and their decoupling from Russia and
Belarus. In accordance with a joint declaration signed by the
three respective prime ministers this morning, the deadline for
synchronisation has been moved from the end of 2025, as
originally established by political declarations in 2018 and
2019, to February 2025. The signature today follows an agreement
reached earlier this week between the respective Transmission
System Operators (TSOs) regarding the steps for achieving the
synchronisation in February 2025. The relevant grid
reinforcements are a project of common interest (PCI) on the
Union's 5th PCI list under the TEN-E Regulation and have
received a record amount of funding from the Connecting Europe
Facility for Energy.
